In 2005, Sharon Welch Clark, owner of Pepperberries, launched Pamper Me Pink, an annual event that encouraged women to take a little time out for pampering and education about their health. Over the years, Pamper Me Pink has become much more than a social gathering. It’s now a fundraising event that supports the Pamper Me Pink Mammography Fund, which is managed by UVA Culpeper Hospital.
More than 600 men and women take part in this free event and enjoy food, music, chair massages, warm paraffin hand wraps, learning sessions and more. Plus, for the keynote address, a physician specializing in cancer provides guests with the latest information in a presentation that is engaging and easy to follow.
There is an Oprah-style survivor story that always brings tears to the eyes, and the bounty of door and raffle prizes creates a fun evening for all. The event takes place on the fourth Tuesday of October, just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Area businesses do their part by contributing to the mammography fund, which provides free mammograms and necessary follow-up screenings and/or testing for women and men in need. UVA Culpeper Hospital is committed to providing care to all of our patients and is proud to partner with Pepperberries to help women and men gain access to these funds.
“The goal is to meet the needs of women and men. If they need a mammogram and can’t afford it, our funds help,” says Clark.
Community members who would like to apply for the program can reach out to UVA Culpeper Hospital Financial Counseling at 540.829.4320. A financial counselor will provide the application and help the patient through the screening and scheduling process, if he or she is eligible.
