Summer Break Camp Descriptions

Summer Break Camps run from 9:00a-12:45p and 1:15p-4:30p and cover a variety of topics in creative drama, acting, improv, and art. Campers can register for a morning session, an afternoon session, or combine morning and afternoon sessions for a full-day experience! Please note: campers who are staying a full day should bring lunch with them to camp. Lunchtime is supervised. Before and After Care is available at an additional cost.

One-Week Theatre Camp Sessions (Grades 2-5)

Imagination Express                                                                  $150

Monday-Friday 9:30AM – 12:45PM 

Play and perform in any of our thematic one-week, action packed summer camps!

 

June 6 – June 10 – Fight crime as a superhero in Supermen & Wonder Women

June 13 – June 17 – Slay dragons and build kingdoms in Knights & Princesses

June 20 – June 24 – Protect the universe as a Galaxy Guardian

June 27 – July 1 – Explore ancient wonders and exotic animals in Jungle Adventures

July 11 – July 15 – Sail the seas as Pirates & Mermaids

July 18 – July 22– Enter new worlds in Wardrobes & Wonderlands

July 25 – July 29 – Fight crime as a superhero in Supermen & Wonder Women

 

No matter the week or weeks, camp at the State Theatre is all about endless fun and creativity!

 

Theatre-Maker: Stage Starters                                              $150

Monday-Friday 1:15PM-4:30PM 

Spend your week with the State Theatre and explore the exciting world of the stage! Our one week of beginner level Theatre-Maker builds on the morning explorations of Imagination Express and breaks up play-making into sections that develop skills in a variety of theatre fields spanning work on the stage and off!

Topics may include playwriting, acting, prop building, puppet- making and other elements of production. The final class includes a shareformance with friends and family to show skills learned.

Attend both camps for Grades 2-5 at a price of $250

 

 

Two-Week Theatre Camp Sessions (Grades 6-8)

Acting FUNdamentals                                                                 $250

Monday-Friday 9:30AM – 12:45PM 

Enjoy making the moments and speaking the speeches in this Acting FUNdamentals class. Jump into a theatrical two-week gymnasium and stretch your acting muscles.

Students learn both how to create character on their feet through improvisation training as well as by working with script in hand. Skills for auditioning, collaborating, and teamwork are all explored in this fun and fast-paced extravaganza of theatre training.

Spend two weeks creating an amazing company of friends who love acting and the stage.

 

Theatre-Maker: Piedmont Players Jr.                                   $250

Monday-Friday 1:15PM – 4:30PM 

Enjoy your afternoons at the State Theatre and explore the exciting world of the stage! Our two weeks of intermediate level Theatre-Maker builds on the morning explorations of Acting FUNdamentals and breaks up play-making into sections that develop skills in a variety of theatre fields spanning work on the stage and off!

Topics may include playwriting, acting, singing, dancing, directing, scenic art, costuming, prop building, and other elements of production. The final class includes a shareformance with friends and family to show skills learned.

Attend both camps for grades 6-8 at a price of $395

 

One week Art Camp Sessions (Grades 2-5)

Mask Madness                                                                                       $150

Monday-Friday 9:30AM – 12:45PM

Masks have been used the world round for theatre, ritual, holidays, and other cultural activities. Design and create simple to complex masks based upon character studies from scenes, stories, and mask styles from around the world. We will also learn about the age-old tradition of designing Chinese opera masks.

 

Outside the Lines                                                                                  $150

Monday-Friday 1:15PM-4:30PM

 

Discover a world of creativity this summer! We are going to work on expressing ourselves through the exploration of various 2-D media including acrylic, watercolor, collage, pastels, and charcoal. Emphasis will be placed on artistic self-expression, experimentation, and art appreciation. Students should bring a sketchbook; all other supplies are included.

Two week Art Camp Sessions (Grades 6-8)

June 13th – June 24th

July 11th – July 22nd

 

 

Fan Frenzy                                                                                               $250

Monday-Friday 9:30AM – 12:45PM

Make marvelous movie, television, and book art in this fun camp. Tell stories, re-create favorite characters and explore animation and illustrations. We will explore famous “fan art” and art that has been used as an influence in film and television. Students should bring a sketchbook; all other supplies are included.

 

Outside the Box                                                                                     $250

Monday-Friday 1:15PM-4:30PM

Discover a world of creativity this summer! We are going to work on expressing ourselves through the exploration of various 3-D media including papier-mache, recycled materials, and natural objects. We’re wandering outside of conventional sculpture, and emphasis will be placed on artistic self-expression, experimentation, and art appreciation. Students should bring a sketchbook; all other supplies are included.
